Sometimes a waitress can make all the difference.
Let me explain. A lot of restaurants serve the same dish. Take Atlantic salmon. Basically, you’re going to get a 5 – 7 ounce chunk of pan-seared or broiled salmon over (pick one): spinach, mashed potatoes, asparagus, spinach – you get the idea. And so I found myself – tired – trudging into Michaels of Maidstone the other night (a local restaurant located in Springs in East Hampton) with no expectations. The menu did not excite me which HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RESTAURANT but rather with my Monday night malaise.
The fact of the matter was that this particular evening, I really needed human interaction to make my meal sing. And I got it. From Sheryl the waitress. She was upbeat, enthusiastic about us being there, about giving us the booth, about the menu, about bringing us the wonderful focaccia. She made our meal.
For the record, my salmon was PERFECTLY COOKED. And the accompanying mashed potatoes, asparagus and garlic-laced carrots were nicely prepared. But the bottom line is that Sheryl made this evening special. Good hire Michaels!
