February 18th has been dubbed National Drink Wine Day to spread the love of wine. Wine has played an important role in history and it’s only right to celebrate with a delicious glass of vino. If you want to spend the day in style, stop in at one of the 50 vineyards across the island for a tasting or check out some of these great wine bars. Cheers!

Meritage Wine Bar - Northport

From the food and wine to the décor and hospitality, expect an authentic Mediterranean experience at Meritage Wine Bar. Sample some items from the menu such as the meat and cheese boards and the spreads and salads or check out the small plates with creations such as Pulpo al Gallego with fingerling potatoes and chorizo saffron aioli and roasted bone marrow with onion jam, wild mushroom and grilled read. Pair them with a wine selection from the vast list that highlights smaller producers that are lesser known that create unique wines.

Madiran The Wine Bar - East Setauket

Named after the wine producing region Madiran in south west France, Madiran The Wine Bar focuses on a wine list of sommelier selections from around the world but with an emphasis on terroir-driven classics from the “Old World” wine regions in Europe. Pair your wine with a board of meat and cheese such as the Spanish Board with Jamon Serrano, Chorizo, Manchego, almonds, olives and bread or sample one of the pizzas or paninis like the Madiran panini with caramelized onion and Gruyere cheese. From wine classes to winter white happy hour, there’s plenty of options to check out.

Wine Cellar on Main - Northport

Located in the heart of Northport Village, Wine Cellar on Main offers a large wine selection from around the globe. Whether you are looking for a full bodied red or a light and oaky white, wine samplings by the flight are highly encouraged. Sample a taste from the tapas menu such as a Mediterranean plate with feta served with lemon olive oil and fresh pepper, olives, spanakopita and grape leaves. Look for weekly specials including Sunday Funday, Tapas Tuesday and Wine Down Wednesday.

City Cellar Wine Bar & Grill - Westbury

The centerpiece at this wine bar is the towering glass fronted wine cellar showcasing the impressive selection of vino. Offering over forty wines by the glass, City Cellar takes wine seriously. Ask your server to pair your meal with a wine and they will offer you several suggestions. Speaking of meals, the menu has some tasty creations such as the Long Island duck breast with Swiss chard, roasted cauliflower puree, duck confit and amarena cherry. Consider the wine flights with choice of any three wines among the cellar selections in a 3 oz. pour.
